Halleck Creek Institute Fund at the Marin Community Foundation

Originated as a bequest from a long-time donor and managed by the Marin Community Foundation, this fund serves as an operating reserve for Halleck Creek Ranch. An operating reserve is an unrestricted fund balance set aside to stabilize a nonprofit’s finances by providing a cushion against unexpected events, losses of income, and large unbudgeted expenses.

Many nonprofits maintain an operating reserve because it is prudent to have some cash set aside “for a rainy day.” More realistically, rather than a rainy day, it may be that the nonprofit experiences an unforeseen expense, a long-term funding stream unexpectedly dries up, or anticipated program revenue is not as high as projected (as was the case during the COVID-19 pandemic). When an unexpected financial shortfall occurs, having cash reserves to tap into will help Halleck Creek Ranch sustain itself in spite of unanticipated tough times.

Donors are invited to gift cash, stocks, or other assets directly to this fund. For more information on how to do so, please contact Executive Director, Molly Scannell at 415-662-2488 or mscannell@halleckcreekranch.org.
