Vocational and Life Skills Program (VALS)
At Halleck Creek Ranch, we believe that physical work gives everyone, especially those with disabilities, purpose and dignity, and helps them achieve independence and self-sufficiency. The HCR Vocational and Life Skills Training Program (VALS) provides youth and young adults with disabilities the opportunity to develop a set of useful life and job skills while also cultivating emotional intelligence. Led by a certified therapeutic riding instructor with years of ranching and horse experience, our VALS program is designed to help them develop skills they can apply to their everyday lives. Held in eight-week sessions, our VALS program serves 4-8 students each session and meets for two hours each week, offering participants gentle coaching in small groups to ensure that each individual gains the skills needed to reach their goals. This program is open to individuals ages 15 and up who are able to follow two step instructions, do well in a social environment, and enjoy being outdoors and around animals (and who don’t mind getting dirty)!
