Vocational and Life Skills Program (VALS)

The HCR Vocational and Life Skills Training Program (VALS) provides special needs youth with the opportunity to develop a set of useful life and job skills while also cultivating emotional intelligence. This program is open to individuals ages 15 and up who are able to follow two step instructions, do well in a social environment, and enjoy being outdoors and around animals (and who don’t mind getting dirty)!

The VALS Program is a 8 week program, meeting for two hours each week. Our program provides safety and consistency through an established opening, closing and set of activities related to the topic of each week’s session. The curriculum is intentionally crafted to meet the needs of the participants and builds upon itself allowing for deeper understanding and application of core concepts and offers repetition to increase development of new skills. Each week explores a special topic and highlights either animals, plants or general ranch duties. Each week will also contain the following components: Self-reflection & team reflection, hands on/experiential component, connection with nature/animals, and skill building.
