The Gary Sello Memorial Scholarship Fund
Established in 2024 through the generosity of Gary’s family, the Gary Sello Memorial Scholarship Fund honors the legacy of a beloved member of the Halleck Creek Ranch community. Gary contributed immensely to the lives of youth and to the North Bay equestrian community throughout his life.
Gary’s early career was centered on working with children- counselor at Camp Tawonga where he met a talented and beautiful art teacher (his future wife, Cele), preschool teacher at Noe Valley Nursery School, and counselor for runaway youth at Huckleberry House. Future career endeavors included computer programming and networking, operations manager, tow truck driver, and eventually owner of Indian Valley Carriage Company where he and his Team provided rides for weddings, funerals, and the Novato Holiday Lights Tour during Christmas time.
Gary became well known to members of the North Bay equine community through his volunteer work with the Novato Horsemen’s, Marin County Mounted Sheriff’s Posse, Halleck Creek Ranch, and probably many others his family never knew about. Gary found great joy and fulfillment in being the person called to help lift a struggling horse out of a creek, rescue animals during the wildfire, or provide a ride for children and their horses to events.
The Gary Sello Memorial Scholarship Fund proudly supports the Breaking Barriers Fund at Halleck Creek Ranch, whose mission Gary supported deeply during his life.
The Breaking Barriers Fund ensures that no one is ever turned away due to financial hardship. It globally subsidizes tuition and provides additional scholarships, enabling access to Halleck Creek Ranch’s equine-assisted and therapeutic riding programs. Each year, approximately 34% of participants benefit from these scholarships.
Your gift in honor of the Gary Sello Memorial Scholarship Fund helps sustain this vital mission and keeps Gary’s generous spirit alive.
